1. About SacraView
SacraView is a community-maintained atlas of religious buildings and historic places. You can discover places and submit descriptions, photos and corrections. These terms apply to the SacraView website and related apps when they become available.
For questions about the platform, these terms, content removal or review of decisions, contact the SacraView project administration at sacraview@gmail.com.
2. User responsibilities
By submitting content, you confirm that you are its author or have sufficient rights to submit it and grant the selected permission; that you correctly identify the author, sources and licence; and that you do not infringe anyone else's copyright, privacy or other legitimate interests. The information you provide must be accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Do not submit photos found online or copied descriptions without permission merely because they are publicly accessible. Do not publish unlawful content, spam, threats or messages inciting hatred. Keep your account login credentials secure.
When taking pictures, follow the rules of visiting and photographing a specific place. Respect the privacy of the visitors, especially when taking pictures of children, prayer and private ceremonies. When a permit is required to photograph or publish a picture, you must obtain it before submitting a picture.
3. Copyright remains with the author
Copyright in photos and other original content remains with their authors or other lawful rights holders. Uploading content to SacraView does not transfer copyright to the platform. The author may use, publish and license the work elsewhere.
4. What the SacraView permission covers
By selecting the SacraView permission and confirming your consent, you grant the SacraView platform administrator a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use the submitted content for the SacraView atlas until permission is withdrawn or the content is removed under these terms.
The authorisation includes the right to store and copy content in the platform infrastructure and backups; to optimize the size and format of the photos, to create miniatures, to remove technical metadata and to cut the review images; to display and submit photos to view on the SacraView website and related applications; to process the content insofar as it is necessary for its presentation, availability and operation of the platform.
Technical processing must not misleadingly change the meaning of the work or harm the author's honour or reputation. Technical service providers may process content on SacraView's behalf only for these purposes. They receive no independent right to use it for other purposes.
This permission does not cover selling photos separately, using them in third-party advertising or other purposes unrelated to operating the atlas. Such use would require separate permission.
Saving a private draft does not publish it. Submitted content is made public after the review required by the platform. Original photo files are stored privately; visitors receive optimised copies.
5. Attribution
The author is credited for each photo. Attribution may appear beside the photo, in the gallery information or through a clearly accessible link.
When submitting your photos under the SacraView permission, you agree that your public first name and surname may be shortened, for example to “Arūnas P.” You may also provide an author pseudonym of your choice. For another author's work or a CC licence, provide the public credit required by the author's permission or licence; we do not shorten that credit further.
6. Other licences
If you choose a Creative Commons licence instead of the SacraView permission, the selected licence applies. The SacraView permission alone does not grant visitors a general right to copy photos and use them in other projects. Other uses require a separate legal basis or the rights holder's permission.
CC BY 4.0 permits copying and adapting the work, including commercially, with attribution, a licence reference and an indication of changes. CC BY-SA 4.0 additionally requires adaptations to be distributed under the same or a compatible licence. Rights already granted under a CC licence cannot simply be revoked while its conditions are met. CC0 waives copyright and related rights to the extent permitted by law and therefore differs from the limited SacraView permission.
7. Descriptions and translations
By submitting original descriptions and accepting these terms, you grant SacraView an equivalent non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and edit them for clarity and accuracy, and to translate them into other atlas languages, for the purposes of operating the atlas.
Translations may be generated automatically and may contain inaccuracies. Report errors to the project administration. Editing and translation must not misleadingly change the substance of the author's information.
8. Content removal and withdrawal of permission
You can request the removal of your content and the withdrawal of the SacraView permission by email at sacraview@gmail.com. Please provide the content and information to verify your right to submit a request.
Once your request has been verified, content will be removed from public access within 30 calendar days. Urgent reports of possible legal or privacy violations are assessed without delay. Withdrawing permission ends further public use of the content; files in active storage are also removed, except evidence that must lawfully be retained.
Non-public technical copies may remain in backups until their normal change, but not longer than 90 days after removal, unless specific data is required to be stored due to a legal obligation or dispute. Such copies are no longer used for public display of content; in the restoration of the system, removal decisions apply before the return of public access.
Withdrawing permission does not make earlier lawful use unlawful. SacraView cannot guarantee removal of copies independently saved by others. Closing an account does not automatically remove all its content; you may also request removal of your submissions. Rights previously granted under Creative Commons remain subject to the relevant licence.
9. Moderation and reports
SacraView may review submissions, request clarification, reject submissions, or hide and remove content that violates the rules or the law. Photo processing and automatic translation are performed by software; moderators assess content and reports.
For repeated or significant violations, access to the account may be proportionally limited. The decision taken and its reasons are informed when possible and permitted by law. You may request a review of the decision.
Please notify the possible infringement at sacraview@gmail.com, providing a link, the infringement clarification and contact details for response. Notification by email does not require a SacraView account.
10. Accuracy and privacy
Atlas information is contributed by the community. Visiting hours, access conditions and photography rules may change, so check them with the place or its operator before visiting.
Permission to use a photo does not replace the platform's duty to protect personal data and is not blanket consent to all processing. To evidence consent, we retain the account identifier, submission and photo identifiers, chosen licence, author credit, terms and consent text, version, language and server-recorded date. These records are not public.
These terms and conditions do not limit rights and liabilities that cannot be restricted under applicable law. For personal data and your rights you can contact e-mail at sacraview@gmail.com.
11. Changes to the terms and disputes
We will notify you in advance of significant changes to these terms. Changing the terms alone will not grant broader rights to previously submitted content; separate consent is required. This version does not automatically change permissions for photos uploaded earlier.
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Lithuania, without removing mandatory consumer protections applicable to the user. We first seek to resolve disputes by agreement; otherwise, the applicable rules on jurisdiction apply.
